2006 Pontiac Vibe 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

The Vibe is an excellent car for a small family that needs room and economy. The rear seat folds flat and is hard plastic so you can easily slide your stuff in and out. The cargo mat (or carpet) is a good option to keep stuff from sliding around, and it also quiets it down a bit. The performance is adequate, the Toyota engine revs freely if you ever need to pass. The only problem I've had is when the oil was changed, someone put the windshield washer tube out of its clip so it was kinked and no fluid came out. This was quickly fixed and adjusted correctly at the dealer. It gets excellent mileage and is fun to drive. I recommend it for someone not needing the space of a minivan.

Favorite Features

Toyota engine has passing power when you need it and is economical. Very comfortable seats for everyone. Great seating position. Excellent ride. Has the comfort and space of a much larger vehicle. Great family car. Passenger seat folds flat so you can transport long flat things with the trunk closed

Suggested Improvements

Great seating position except for the steering wheel. It's too far away with the seat back. Should be telescoping. MP3 port

Review

We've owned a Caravan (V6)for the past 18 years and decided to try something with better gas mileage. So far we are very pleased with the switch. The Vibe seems to be comparible on interstate as far as power goes, gas mileage was 34 mpg on our first road trip and the passenger and driver compartment was more comfortable than the van. There was actually more leg & foot room. The only downfall is the cargo space but we hope to take advantage of the roof rack for that. Finding crossbars for the roof rack on a Vibe seems to be a challenge. I should have gotten a Vibe years ago.

Favorite Features

The look, fun to drive, gas mileage and the leg & foot room. Also it looks and drives like a sporty car but it seats you up higher like a minivan. Comfort is gets an A+. I'm 6'4" and have room to spare.

Suggested Improvements

All Vibes should come with crossbars for the roof rack and the console armrest could be a little longer and taller. Take the curve out the rear of the door armrest.

Review

Great car, good gas mileage, lots of fun, few things on the dash and in the driver side door squeeked but I had the door fixed and the dash noise comes and goes but its not bad at all. It is very comfy and fun to drive.

Favorite Features

Gas mileage, sun and sound package, and the look of the car after it's been washed.

Suggested Improvements

Increase the height of the middle compartment/right elbow spot.

Review

My Vibe was a leftover new 2006 I found on a local lot in May 2007. I replaced my ancient 1993 4Runner with the Vibe and I couldn't be happier. Tons of interior space (as much as my old truck), lots of storage cubbies, surprisingly peppy engine (though a little noisy when it gets into higher RPM) and aggressive, sporty styling (much cooler than the Matrix). After about 1700 miles, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Favorite Features

Great gas mileage (averaging 30-32 mpg in city) AC power plug. Versatile interior, all seats fold completely flat (even front passenger) Great sounding stereo. Adults can fit in the back seats comfortably. Peppy around town and decent power on the highway, cruises nicely at 80-85 mph

Suggested Improvements

No aux input for iPod/MP3 player (every other car in this class has one) Console arm rest is too low. Needs telescoping steering wheel. Auto trans needs performance mode, too much hunting for gears. More interior sound insulation. Make roof rack crossbars standard. Fix rear blind spot

Review

Fun and easy to drive. It’s real easy to get excited about this car. It gets great rating all around. Some times I take for granted how good a car it is until I have to drive something else. I don’t know why some “experts” say it’s underpowered. With 4 passengers and luggage it may have a little trouble getting uphill, but other than that its 130 or so horses has plenty of giddyup. The experts also say the steering wheel is too far to reach. I have short arms, it’s not a problem.

Favorite Features

Interior cabin air filter. 16 in x 55 Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires and awesome handling. Tires stick to the road and give you great grip in fast turns and quick reaction situations. Great back support. Floor mats, Fog lights and map lights, standard on base model.

Suggested Improvements

Horn reminds me of the “love bug”, Needs a “big car” horn. Needs removable roof rack. Bring back crossbars for roof rack. Move radio antenna somewhere else; gets in the way of roof cargo. More efficient rear wiper and rear wiper controls.

Review

We bought the Vibe and went from the panhandle of FL to PA non stop, and at 6' and 275lbs and a bad back I knew I was inviting trouble. Not at all! Got out of the car and felt great. Turned around and drove back to FL and then to IL. Seat adjustments are great! 30 mpg at 75 mph and much better in town. Traded in a '97 Grand Prix and although I miss the HP of the V6 this is not bad in town. On the highway it needs additional spunk. When in cruise it continually wants to downshift to go over the overpasses, so I disengage the cruise and manually feed it the gas before I get to the hill. Lots of standard options. Good feel and versatile. We tinted the windows though.

Favorite Features

Gauges, economy, looks, color, standard options. Feel when driving. Interior space, and lastly the storage options.

Suggested Improvements

Telescoping steering column. Raise line on power switches on door. More HP when in cruise mode. Deaden motor noise with better insulation. Power rear/side window controls (open outward). Add audible chirp to remote keyless locking. Add compass to mirror. Move temp gauge to mirror

Review

I love my car. I bought it 01/2007 and have put 5k miles on it. It goes like 80 miles before it hits under the F on the gas tank. Gave a 7 for build quality due to the noise when driving on rough surface. I bought base model - and love it. Car does really well - fits my small and large friends who are 300+. Car accelerates quickly. Looked at Matrix and Caliber which are in same class as the Vibe. Looked at the Toyota Yaris as well. Took this car for test drive and bought it same night. This was our 4th car from the dealership and are very happy with it. Hope to keep it for many years

Favorite Features

Room, comfy seats. Air conditioning works fantastic, especially for arizona. Gas mileage is pheonomenal. I try to use 89 at Chevron. Get more than 91 octane at other places. Easy to read driver console.

Suggested Improvements

The noise the car makes from the plastic inside the wheelwells. If it can be made from the same gray plastic around the bottom of the car or made from metal or just one solid piece of plastic underneath would be great. Power windows and locks as stand features. Blind spot in wagon mini window needs to be changed.

2006 Pontiac Vibe 4dr Wagon (1.8L 4cyl 5M)

Review

The Vibe provides a great ride and gets super gas mileage. Yeah, the road noise on rough surface roads is a little noisy, so turn up the radio a little, get over it. Enjoy all the other positves about the Vibe. Cruise, great radio sounds, daytime running lights, fog lights, rear opening glass, plastic on the back of the back of the back seats when the seats are folder down for hauling. Storage pockets everywhere, in the doors, center console, left side of dash, glove box, and another storage box under the gear selector. Give it a look, you won't be disappointed.

Favorite Features

Sunroof, smooth ride, extremely cold air conditioner, and roof racks in case I want'a haul something that will not fit in the back. First tank of gas netted a little over 35 mpg (30% city and 70% highway).

Suggested Improvements

I have to agree that the center arm rest is a little low, but other than that, no complaints.

Review

Great little car, great comfort, great mileage, great cargo capacity. I am a outside salesman and after 21k miles in 6 months I can say this is one nice car. averaged 38 mpg in the summer about 34-5 in the winter, simply fantastic, very comfortable and this is after at least 4 hours in the car 5 days a week. Dual power outlets keep my laptop on and my phone powered up, have hauled some pretty impressive items for the wagons size "do you have a truck?" nope i have the Vibe. The one complaint I really have is that the handling and steering while quite capable are not fun, but this is coming from someone who drives a miata or a motorcycle, so It's probably more nitpicking than anything

Favorite Features

Versatility, Great MPG, Dual power outlets, great shift with the manual, comfortable seats with numerous comfortable seating positions, important when you are in any car 4 hours a day. Sometimes the car just strikes me with how all around "good" it is. Laughing at my friend's truck and it's 13 mpg

Suggested Improvements

Make a sportier suspension option without the sport engine, better upgraded sound system(tunes portion of the package pretty worthless) Make the car feel like it actually wants you to drive it rather than shuttle you from place to place(again i bet 95% of people would think it handles great)
