Disappointed
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Fwd 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I bought this vehicle brand new thinking I was getting a good deal since it was the last '03 in town. Well lets see, the catalytic converter has been replaced, as well as they entire air conditioning system-which you can only buy the parts from the dealership. Also the cv-joints have been replaced and I only get 16mpg- combined city and highway. You would think it had 100k plus miles, but I just traded it in with 67k. There was no power, touchy transmission, a super disappointment to drive. I also felt every bump in the road and it was so uncomfortable. Also my partner was 6'4" and his knees hit the dashboard and he could hardly drive it. It was cramped and a huge disappointment.
Favorite Features
I loved the exterior design.
Suggested Improvements
Engine, interior design, transmission, pretty much everything.

Terrific Little SUV
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Fwd 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
If you are looking for a smaller, more fuel efficient SUV, you could not find a better one than the Outlander, whatever the year. I have the 2003, in 2 wheel drive, and both my husband and I liked it so much that he bought a new Outlander (AWD) last year when his Subaru (his 7th) quit. I never thought he would abandon his Subarus, but he actually defected to my Outlander's side. The Outlander handles like a dream, has a really nice sound system (once you fiddle with the balance, etc), the intelligent wipers are great, the seats are comfortable, and the gas mileage is respectable once you break in the engine (after about 30,000 miles).
Favorite Features
The smart wipers - slow down when you stop at at light, so you don't have to keep fiddling with the speed! Great feature.
Suggested Improvements
All of the improvements I could recommend for the '03 have been addressed in the newer models! Except that you can no longer tow anything with the newer ones. Shame.

Excellent Value
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Fwd 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I have had my Outlander for 3 1/2 yrs. I checked Edmunds before I bought it, looking for an SUV that got good gas mileage, was economical to insure, and that was able to accommodate two tall adults. It has made two long trips (over 1,600 miles) and several 400 mile trips each year with no problems.
Favorite Features
I love the great gas mileage! The rails on top make it easy to spot in a parking lot.
Suggested Improvements
It could be a bit taller.

Good SUV
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander LS Fwd 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I've had my Outlander for almost two years and I am very happy with it. It's very reliable and the performance is good. It is easy to get in and out of and the trunk compartment is easily accessible.
Favorite Features
Is reliability a feature? This is a peppy vehicle for a 4 cylinder.
Suggested Improvements
The window controls are placed too far forward. Sometimes I roll down the back windows by mistake. My fan cuts off and on constantly when running the a/c, which is weird. Also, I have to be careful because of limited visibility (blind spots).

Good Family Vehicle
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I've always had minivans before this and I was reluctant to go to an SUV because I enjoyed the extra backseat. However, after test driving the Outlander with my family of five we decited to buy. My three kids fit comfortably in the backseat (with two booster seats) The height is simliar to a van and the trunk is a lot roomier.
Favorite Features
Our favorite feature is the sunroof.
Suggested Improvements
It needs more compartments inside to put things.

Great Vehicle for the Money
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander LS AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
The Mitsubishi Outlander is everything that I was looking for. It is roomy, comfortable, quick and responsive, high off the ground, and it has a very thoughtful interior design. Its gas mileage is a little higher than I expected, about 25 mpg on the highway.
Favorite Features
I'm 6'4", and the Outlander is very easy to get in and out of and very comfortable. Also, I like the storage/rear seat design.
Suggested Improvements
The Outlander should have a little more power, more useful roof rails, and better highway gas mileage.

Saved our Lives
Vehicle
2003 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)

Our Outlander saved me, my daughter's and her friend's lives! Tonight we were in a terrible car accident where I went into a ditch and my truck flipped over three times! We all had our seatbelts on, the back windows shattered OUT the car, the sides got bangged up, but the doors never caved in, the roof and hood were badly smashed. When people passed the vehicle, they were horrified...and could not believe we were alive! I am going to buy another...as I feel it truly saved us....I give it a five star safety rating...thanks Mitsubishi!
Favorite Features
The safety features.
Suggested Improvements
It should get better gas mileage, have better tires, and have more "pick-up."

The only thing we'd change about the Mitsubishi Outback is the back seats should completely flatten. If they made this a hybrid version of it I'd by it in a minute.
Favorite Features
We love the Pacific Blue color. You hardly ever see it on the road, everyone loves it. The height is excellent.
Suggested Improvements
Flatten the back seats when they fold down.

Love my Outlander

2003 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
Review
I've had my 2003 Outlander for 3.5 years now, and have had zero problems with it. It still rides, looks, and feels brand-new. It's true that I don't put a lot of miles on my vehicles, but it's been totally reliable in every way. I am planning on upgrading to the new 2007 version as soon as it comes out.
Favorite Features
I love the ride and the utility.
Suggested Improvements
I am looking forward to the tumble-down seats of the 2007 model.
As happy as could be

I have owned this vehicle for a couple years now, I purchased through Hertz rental sales (great experience). I really, really love this car! It is great in snow, rain, shine, fog, city, on freeways or on backroads. I understand some are not happy with the horsepower, but what do you expect? This car is a 4-cyl. and costs under $20,000 used. Nothing has broken and it has not broken down, unlike my friend who has to take her VW Golf in once a month because every little thing breaks on her car. I would absolutely buy this again, although I don't have much need for AWD...it is nice to have but I think it is bad for the gas mileage. You may want a car with better gas mileage if you commute a long way.
Favorite Features
Sport-shift, comfortable, AWD when I encounter snow, roomy, fun, reliable, sturdy, the thing in the back you can use to hide your purchases or other valuables, good for us tall folks, tinted windows, the side mirrors that fold in so I can drive down my tiny driveway, and the pearly white color. The Outlander is unusual but cute.
Suggested Improvements
I am totally with the other guy about the cross bars on the roof racks...come on now it wouldn't cost you that much and then it would be perfect. Improve its gas mileage.
