Review

The Mazda5 is a great car for the right family. We have two kids and when we add the dog, we are filling the vehicle. We bought a clamshell for long trips and that seemed to solve our problem for space. It drives great, really zippy, and it looks great too! We are very happy with the gas mileage, averaging 23 miles a gallon around town and it's got all the latest safety airbags. I think the Mazda5 is great car and a great value for the money.

Favorite Features

The versatility, you can have six passengers or use the extra space for cargo, for a family of four, it's awesome!

Suggested Improvements

I would like more armrests in the car.

My only gripe is that the engine averages 26-27mpg on my mixed loop. The same engine gives 32 hwy on the Mazda3, but Mazda chose a different ECM chip on the 5. Bummer, would have been nice to get the better mileage at least on the stick shift, where the engine has ample power even under load.

Favorite Features

The only minivan with a stick shift.

Suggested Improvements

Improve the gas mileage!

This high wagon is outstanding. Slick exterior design and the interior is great. I enjoy the way it drives and it's fun to switch gears on the auto/manual stick shift.

Favorite Features

Fog lamps, sunroof, sliding back doors etc.

Suggested Improvements

Armrest should be redesign for the driver. Too close to be comfortable. The front windshield should be a little more darker to reflect the sun away from the black dashboard, it gets pretty hot in the summer. Lower your price on Sirius radio, far too expensive for the average Joe.

Review

I was hesitant to buy this vehicle, but a child on the way so needed to make the mature decision. This vehicle is practical with sliding doors. The tires (Toyos) are weak, so I changed them out and the handling has dramatically improved. overall this is a very sensible vehicle.

Favorite Features

The look, sliding doors, compact and handling as well sharp turning radius. Good compromise.

Suggested Improvements

Armrest for passenger, window tint, factory HIDs a little more power, heated mirrors, better stock tires and improve mpg rating.

This is car is just the right size for all my needs. The seats fold down to create more room than I ever expected and when they are up they give me extra space for my girls and their friends. The great thing is that it drives and parks like a car while giving me the space of a larger size minivan or SUV.

Favorite Features

Suggested Improvements

The one thing it is missing is a passenger side arm rest in the middle.

Review

We purchased this car because we had our third child on the way. It has been terrific! The seating configuration is very flexible and works well. We took one long trip across country with the car and it was great. The girls loved it. It has decent storage, though that goes away with the third row of seats up. It will be tough to get everything in on our next trip, but the small size outside and the large size inside is great for now.

Favorite Features

Seating configuration, small size (great for parking), sliding rear doors, sporty feel and look. Fun to drive!

Suggested Improvements

More storage (somewhere?).

Have had a very positive experience with the 5. I routinely travel in the area with 6 adults. We especially like space available with the two back seats flat - great for grocery shopping! Mileage has been about 23 in city and as much as 39 on the highway. Good ride quality and crisp handling. Experience with dealer has been outstanding.

Favorite Features

Gas mileage, handing and ability to seat 6 adults.

Suggested Improvements

Could use a better radio.

Just what I expected it to be. Great handling, great look, exact amount of room for my family, fun to drive and a great gas mileage and great price for my budget.

Favorite Features

I love the slap shifter, moon roof, and the overall uniqueness of the vehicle. Gas mileage is great. My family is too big for a car, vans and suvs are over priced and gas mileage is horrible so the gas mileage in Mazda5 is perfect.

Suggested Improvements

Would have to add arm rests, rear air and more color choices for interior. Also need 6 cylinder and standard tinted windows.

For the first 5 or 6 thousand miles you won't be too impressed with the gas mileage you'll get from this little van, but after a while you'll start noticing the real potential of this vehicle. Ours already has over 12K miles and we are getting 23 to 25 mpg in city driving and over 33 mpg in highway driving. I love its interior space, fit and finish. Handling and breaking are surprisingly good, and the 2.3 liter engine feels very peppy. Congratulations to Mazda engineers on this very functional design. My wife say this is her Toy, she loves it!

Favorite Features

Good power to weight ratio, excellent brakes, and by far the best handling minivan in the market. Interior fit and finish is very good for a vehicle of this price range. Sliding doors on both sides give this minivan great entry / exit versatility.

Suggested Improvements

Cool air distribution around the cabin should be improved. Florida summers are very hot, and sometimes, even with the A/C at max cool, third row seat passengers sweat.

What I liked about this car most of all was the convenience and features. Handles nicely and is an excellent value. Anyone in the market for a small crossover vehicle needs to see this car.

Favorite Features

Suggested Improvements

Needs an iPod / MP3 input. Also needs additional power outlets. Existing one in an inconvenient location.
