Review

After 10,000 miles in 4 months, I was expecting the car to settle in and drive more smoothly, plus improve gas mileage. But, it didn't! There is something in the automatic transmission called "Engine Braking System." This is a horrid piece of engineering. On deceleration to an intersection, it grinds the car down to a stop by itself without touching the brake. Don't know what this feature is for, but it has been a little dangerous in city driving. I hope there is a "fix" soon from Honda. I think it may be contributing to my less-than-expected gas mileage of 26-30. That said, I am very happy with the rest of the car! Decent power, great cargo capacity! But should have waited for a 5sp manual.

Favorite Features

Cargo capacity, edgy look, high quality components. Beautiful night-time dashboard. Logical controls.

Suggested Improvements

Much smoother automatic transmission, do away with engine braking system. Needs a center arm rest. Shifter paddles are a little annoying, and they do not improve gas mileage.

Almost everything about this car is amazing. Each shift is smooth and, though I scoot it around >4000rpm VTEC range here and there, I'm still averaging just over 32mpg city driving. Handling is surprisingly superb, with a somewhat stiffer suspension than other cars. (Fit slalom speed is only 0.5mph under the 8th gen Si). The 200-watt stereo is quite adequate, with an unexpected amount of bass coming froms the mids (no sub). Space is amazing! It's much roomier than it looks; at least, that's what everyone has said to me when they've got a ride. My only complaint is the lack of JDM accessories (i.e. armrest, passenger vanity, maplights, LED tail lights, HID, sunroof, subwoofer, navi, etc)

Favorite Features

Sport rims are good-looking. Shift knob adequate, though kinda big. On compatible CDs, stereo will display song title, artist, or CD name. Stereo preset EQ. "Magic" seats.

Suggested Improvements

JDM Accessories (i.e. armrest, passenger vanity, maplights, LED tail lights, HID, sunroof, subwoofer, navigation, etc) Height adjustable driver's seat possibly VTEC for intake AND exhaust sides, instead of just the intake

Review

I wanted a vehicle that gets very good mileage, but did not want a boring sedan. This vehicle holds a lot of cargo and is a good camping vehicle for me (I can even sleep in the flattened back area). I got the manual transmission, which is very smooth and has improved mileage. The car is fun to drive and has many safety features and feels secure on the highway.

Favorite Features

Interior versatility. Interior fit and finish. Comfort of seats. Driving experience. Mileage (37 mpg in mixed driving for first 12000 miles)

Suggested Improvements

There is a blind spot in rear where the post blocks visibility. This takes some getting used to, and probably should be changed.

Good acceleration for a low hp car. Great gas mileage, I average well over 40 mpg. Handles nicely, tight. Good visibility. Holds a lot of stuff for a little car.

Favorite Features

Most regular maintenance items easy to get to. Great loading characteristics with the combination fold down/fold up rear seats. You actually have to be careful not to overload (by weight) the vehicle.

Suggested Improvements

Locking gas cap. Roof rack. Steering wheel controls for radio. Shifter sometimes a little out of synch.

This was the first car that I truly feel good about owning. I feel good about saving money; the Fit's exceptional fuel economy mitigates my 80-mile/day commute. I feel good about protecting the environment; the Fit is a low emission vehicle. Finally, I feel good while I am driving it, because it is simply fun to drive.

Favorite Features

Paddle shifters and link to my iPod.

Suggested Improvements

I wish it had a dead pedal.

I only have about 1500 miles on my Sport but I am very glad I bought it. It reminds me a lot of my 86 Civic SI. It's interesting how times of changed. My 86 SI was noted for its spritely acceleration at a 0-60 time of 9.8 sec but the Fit is considered a dog with the same numbers. I drive in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas and I amazed how little I have to take it out of 5th gear. It will easily pull out in fifth from about 20 mph without stumbling. I would say the engine and tranny are well mated. It is quiet for a small car and it shifts better than my 86 which was lauded for its smoothness. Its a great car that needs nothing. If you need more power, grow up!

Favorite Features

Shifter great fold down back seat. My Lab loves it. Fuel economy (35-38) Handling. Fit and finish puts American cars to shame

Suggested Improvements

I did even notice it didn't have a dead pedal. (I'll get a brick) A middle armrest would be nice.

Review

Terrible seats and driving position, no armrest nor left foot rest. Automatic transmission has a 3-4 second hesitation when you step down on it at low speeds, 2-4 mph, before it downshifts to 1st gear. This is very dangerous at intersections, and has almost gotten me t-boned on several occasions. They are all like this, according to Honda, who could care less. I drove 2 others and they have the same hesitation. Honda should be forced to recall the automatic Fits and fix this dangerous defect! This has really soured me on Honda, even though I had no problems with previous Hondas. Not enough power. Gas mileage less than expected. Handling, cargo capacity good. Can hardly wait to get rid of it!

Favorite Features

Handling, cargo capacity.

Suggested Improvements

Better front seats, fix the auto transmission downshift hesitation, more power, better gas mileage, higher quality carpet, add left foot rest and arm rest for driver, improve the rough, noisy ride, add locking gas cap.

Now have 37,000 miles and out of warranty. No reason to go back to the dealer except routine maintenence. Still look forward to driving it daily. I've read many comments and here's my take: Who wants to steal 10 gallons of gas when pickups hold 35 gallons? No need for a lock IMHO. Plenty fast, just accelerate in the 4 - 5.5K rpm range. It can take it all day. 4 people with A/C in hilly territory - yea, you have to row it some. But with 4.30/1 gears it jumps off the line. Small tank - it's OK cause I keep enjoying confirming the 35 mpg average I get using all 109 HP. I've forgotten about the dead pedal issue. No lit vanity mirror, locking glovebox, and armest not a deal breaker.

Favorite Features

Peppy, fun to drive, wicked fast steering. Fuel economy, holds all my gear, or combo of gear and people. All safety equipment and features are standard. Sweet shifter. Reliable. Like the look from the front. Great headlights. Easy Sirius Stiletto hook- up. Love keyless entry on an economy car

Suggested Improvements

A 6th gear would be nice for high speed cruising. For a short wheelbase and light car the ride is good. I think a softer, quieter ride would require a different kind of car that would not fit this category or provide what you buy this car for.

Best value car I have ever had. Delight to drive with room to spare. I have been getting 32-34 MPG in town and 35-38 MPG on trips. Can't wait for the 2009.

Favorite Features

Room, comfort, mileage, feel on the road.

Suggested Improvements

Add armrest in center.

Great use of interior space - we've had 5 tall people in it at once and everyone has room. The folding seats are great. Disappointing mileage in real world use. Our 100% city driven car is averaging 16 mpg and it's certainly not being thrashed.

Favorite Features

Seats

Suggested Improvements

With the weight and tiny wheezy engine I expect to see a benefit at the pump (and I don't).
